Nebraska (nicknamed the Cornhusker state) is a landlocked contiguous continental US state located in the West North Central sub-region and the Midwest region of the United States. Nebraska borders the US states of South Dakota to the north, Iowa to the east, Missouri to the southeast, Kansas to the south, Colorado to the southwest and Wyoming to the west.
The state of Nebraska is divided into 93 counties, the 11th state with the highest number of counties. Nebraska is also the only state in the United States whose legislature is unicameral and officially nonpartisan. The capital of Nebraska is Lincoln and her largest city is Omaha.
With a total area of 200,330 km2, Nebraska is the 16th largest US state in area, the 37th most populous US state, with a total of 1,920,076 inhabitants (July 2017 estimates) and the 43rd most densely populated state, with only 9.6 inhabitants per square kilometer.
Nebraska was admitted into the Union on March 1st, 1867, as the 37th of the current 50 US states.
